The weekend began with a Treasure Hunt on Sunday 2nd June, organised by
Maureen Chubb, which received tremendous support, raising considerable revenue towards the village fair funds. Cream teas were enjoyed by the participants and our thanks go to Maureen and those who assisted her on the day.
Monday,3rd June 2002 , the picnic was held on the Recreation Ground and despite the inclement weather the occasion was well attended by local people.
There was a great deal of interest shown in the Memorabilia exhibition and the display of the Millennium book (CD Rom copies are available at £5 each from Barbara Turner tel. 01373 812934)
A golden coloured ash ( fraxinus jaspidea) was ceremoniously planted by Miss Kathryn Orledge, who received a £5 Golden Jubilee coin to mark the occasion.
The chairman of the Rec Committee,Jan Robson ,was presented with a cheque for £400 to purchase and engrave a "Park Bench" to be sited near to the Jubilee tree.
Photographs of the event were taken and will be displayed at the village fair on the 6th July 2002.
Free teas and Jubilee hats were available and chocolate bars were given out to the children present. The children participated in games and face painting and a prize was given to the winners of the fancy dress.
The Golden Jubilee Committee wish to thank all those who assisted in the organisation and setting up of the events, including the face painting and those persons kind enough to loan items for the Memorabilia exhibition, but also to those intrepid enough to face the elements and enjoy the weekend.
The Committee are proposing to hold a further event in the autumn, details of which will be published in due course.
