Leigh on Mendip Memorial Hall Committee
DRAFT Minutes of AGM Held on 1st Nov 2010 8pm
Present G Baker, V Barnes, K Cockroft, B Loten, M Loten, A Orpwood, R Orpwood, M Read, S. Vaughan,
The Meeting was opened by the chair S. Vaughan
Minutes of last year’s meeting were agreed and signed after some minor amendments..
Annual Report and Accounts were presented to the meeting by SV and KC, these having been approved earlier by the committee. KC’s accounts showed there was still a healthy balance of over £9000 although this did not allow for the recent cavity wall insulation cost. The largest income item was the fashion show held in May which had made £500. However he emphasized the continuing need to increase income due to rising insurance, electricity and other costs.
SV then read out the Review of the Year Summary from her Annual Report. The main maintenance issue last year had been how cold the hall was and how expensive to try and heat, due mainly to the very severe winter. She hoped the cavity wall insulation, just completed, would help the situation. She also noted that the new lock on the front door had been fitted and gave an update on the query from Mr Brook about the wall between his land and the car park. The Hall committee had offered to pay half the cost of repairing this but Mr Brook refused to pay anything for the work so the matter had been dropped and there has been no further contact from him. She thanked Ann and Roger Orpwood for taking over from Brenda Wigmore as booking clerks and Brenda for all her work in the post. She also thanked Rod Cambourne for his time as Designated Premises Supervisor, a role now not required. It was a busy year of fundraising events with the quiz, Let Them Eat Cake - a comedy sketch show, the Fashion Show and of course the village fair, with particular thanks for the latter to Gill Baker and Ann Orpwood. We were now looking forward to our next event, the Folk Roots Duo of Dan Cassidy and James Hickman on Sat 4th December.
All committee members present agreed to stand again, including Ann Orpwood who was co-opted during the year. No contact received from BW or SC, SV will get in touch to see if they wish to continue as committee members. After the list of committee members SV had noted the death of John Phillips who came to many committee meetings with offers of help and suggestions. He will be missed. Officers to be formally elected at next ordinary meeting on 29th November.
AO suggested some refreshment at next year’s AGM, a practice which had lapsed and committee happy to resume. SV thanked Brian and Margaret Loten for attending.. There being no further business the AGM was closed at 8.15pm.
