Dear Leigh on Mendip Parishioner

Re - Open Space Funding (S106)

Your invitation to attend an Open Meeting on

Wednesday 24th October 2018 from 7pm at the Memorial Hall

The developer of Apple Meadow View had a planning obligation to make a contribution towards off-site open space in the community and this money is currently held and administered by Mendip District Council (MDC).

Following a village consultation at the end of 2017 the Parish Council reviewed the suggestions made and decided that purchasing an area of land which could be used to provide allotments to parishioners was a proposal that MDC would be likely to support. We also decided that buying the largest area of land we could with the funds available was important because the opportunity to secure ‘community’ land does not arise very often.

After approaching some landowners to see if they would be prepared to sell any land, the only positive response received related to a portion of the field adjacent to the recreation field and its car park. Earlier this year your Council therefore approached MDC to see if they would agree in principle to the proposal, which they did. The next step will be to submit the formal application.

The Council would now like to make a formal offer to the landowner and then proceed with the actual purchase.

However, before doing that the Council wish to have an open meeting to explain the proposed use of the land, including where allotments could be sited.  We will also seek further suggestions about how the land can be used and managed.

The meeting will provide an opportunity for all villagers to ask questions, put forward ideas and express any concerns.  If you cannot attend then please email your ideas to Vicki Taylor at vickigt@hotmail.co.uk or post them through her door - 3 Perry’s Cottages, Leigh on Mendip.

Pre-meeting information is available here
.

Follow-up actions and next steps will be agreed at the open meeting and a report of the meeting will also be produced and made available.

We look forward to seeing as many villagers as possible at the meeting.
