The information provided below will also be delivered as a paper copy to properties in the village shortly.

Dear Resident
A developer has just submitted a planning application to Mendip District Council (MDC) to build 40 houses on land behind Ivy Cottage and adjacent to the school. This is a major application, which if permitted will significantly increase our community and affect us all.

.
Your Parish Council (PC) has reviewed in detail the application and would like to share some of this with you and to hear your views. However, the PC need to comment on the application by 23rd October, so time is short, and we also must be Covid19 Safe.
.
The PC is arranging three one-hour sessions in the Memorial Hall this weekend  at 10.30 am and 2.00 pm Saturday 10th and another at 10.30 am Sunday 11th. We will present an overview of the application and then try to address your questions and queries. There will also be a 2 hour online meeting at 7.00 pm on Tuesday 13th on Zoom; if you provide an email address you will receive an invitation with a link that will connect you.
The government has recently released Village Halls who have implemented Covid guidelines to hold certain types of meetings such as the Open Meeting that the PC is arranging. You will need to wear a mask except when you are speaking, and you will be shown to your seats. You must give contact information for track and trace when booking - do bring paper and pencil for your notes; we will destroy your contact information after 21 days.
.
The PC is keen to hear your views and we will provide some information to help you make your comment to MDC and ask your opinion on the application; the Council’s response to MDC will be representative of the village views and your information to us.
.
There are further opportunities to pass on your views, firstly by discussing them with any Councillor and secondly at the Parish Council meeting when the formal response is agreed, expected to be 19th October at 7.00pm on Zoom, but your speaking time then will be short.
.
If you wish to attend any of the four meetings you will need to book a place with Vicki Taylor who lives at Vickie’s Place on the north side Leigh Street opposite Park Hayes. Her telephone number is 01373 813942. You must book with her as there are an extremely limited number of places at each the Hall session and we need your email address to invite you to a Zoom meeting.
.
Finally, if you want to review the documentation provided with the application click here or click here for the Mendip District Council website with planning details for 2020/1877/OTS.
.
We hope to see as many of you as possible at the Open Meetings and look forward to hearing and noting your views.

Proposal for 40 House Development at Leigh on Mendip

The Leigh on Mendip Parish Council have just been notified that the developer for the land at the rear of Ivy Cottage is now moving forward with an application for outline planning permission for 40 dwellings. Of these, 8 starter homes and 2 units are for social rent/shared ownership as affordable housing; he has provided a plan of the site but no other supporting information; the plan and other information is available from the links below. The developer promised to hold a public consultation in the village for you to express your views and he has been reminded of this; the Council will continue to urge him to deliver this opportunity.

Should the developer walk away from a public consultation, there will be an opportunity to comment individually and directly to Mendip District Council when the planning application is posted. The Parish Council will also welcome your views when we discuss and decide our recommendation to Mendip District Council. Until then it is important that Councillors are impartial to avoid being seen to be predetermining their recommendation.

We will continue to provide any information made available to us in advance of the formal planning application being released.
