HELD ON 2 JANUARY 2001

G Cawood, District Councillor, sent her apologies.
A letter of resignation from Nick Haskins was read out. Mendip District Council will be consulted about the temporary vacancy. Thanks were recorded to NH for his service to the village as a Councillor. CLERK
MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING were accepted as a true record & signed.
MATTERS ARISING all letters sent.
Still no response from WS Atkins except for an email address update. Clerk will write to them again with copies of previous correspondence since October, cc County Councillor.
PARISH WARDEN SCHEME JW had heard unofficially that the scheme was to go ahead in April 2001. ML quoted a report that one area had dropped out due to cost.

REC FIELD LEASE & MILLENNIUM SEAT next Agenda. CLERK
A letter concerning the provision of recycling facilities had been received in answer to a Parishioners query in November. It did not answer the question as to whether the recycling collection to the village would be resumed, a copy will be given to the Parishioner. CLERK
The Financial Report for 2/01/01 was corrected under Current Balance to read £3771.88, acceptance was proposed by PM, seconded by GJ, agreed by all and signed.
No news to date on the purchase of a kissing gate for Sparks Farm Field. GJ
A request for the 2001 subscription for SLCC of £43 had been received. GJ proposed payment, PM seconded and all agreed. Cheque 337 on the Current a/c was made out and signed. A sub to the NALC magazine is being offered at the cost of £9.99 pa. JW proposed subscribing for one year, GJ seconded and all agreed (next meeting). CLERK
It was agreed to hold a meeting of the Cemetery Committee on 16 Jan 2001 at 7pm at The Post House to discuss the rules. ML, GJ, JW & MM
GJ had not yet priced the flags for under the seat.
ROADS & FOOTPATHS
Drain on road opposite Tarmac Offices needs attention. CLERK
TWO STOREY EXTENSION & DETACHED DOUBLE GARAGE, WHITEHOLE FARM, WHITEHOLE HILL.
The size of the garage was questioned with regard to its potential for conversion to a dwelling in the future. Also the arrangement of the accommodation in the house was discussed. Councillors were concerned that extensive work had already taken place at this site without planning permission and were unsure if effective safeguards could be put in place to make sure that any future work was commensurate with any consent that might be granted.
It was agreed not to object to the application but to ask for careful monitoring of the site and to seek information as to what action was to be taken about work already done without the required permission. CLERK
HOUSE & GARGE BEHIND OAK COTTAGE permission granted.
Due to NHs resignation the PC has no representative on the Hall Committee. NH will be asked if he will carry on reporting their activities to the PC in the short term. CLERK
MOONS HILL QUARRY approval of conditions, circulated.
JW and the Clerk had attended the Cemetery Best Value Meeting at Mendip District Council. The District appear to want to: 1) stop giving Burial Grants. 2) Get Parishes to pay for day to day Cemetery/Closed Churchyard maintenance. 3) To levy a Special Expenses Rate on a Parish when/if major work needed to be done to their churchyard. JW had raised the question of double taxation paying for the District maintained cemeteries as well as the village one with SALC. Minutes circulated. A questionnaire from District concerning options was discussed & will be completed. JW & CLERK
