LEIGH ON MENDIP PARISH COUNCIL MEETING HELD ON MONDAY 15 MARCH 2004

 IN THE HALL

 

Councillors present:    J Wright, G Casey, G Jeanes and

The MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING were accepted and signed.

 

MATTERS ARISING:

Update on the planning application for 2 Westleigh, Tadhill requested.

                                                                                                ACTION – CLERK

Complaint re. roads and footpaths – the stile in question has been repaired by an unknown person.

Barn Close Quarry – report given by JW on meeting attended.  The owners of this quarry are considering the proposal submitted previously by Quattro but without the “green” proposals.  The Quattro proposals were circulated to councillors with this month’s correspondence

 

FINANCE

Financial statements for February and March accepted with signed amendments.

 

Current a/c

Hall rent – payment of £9.00 proposed by NP and seconded by GJ.  Cheque no. 000401 written and signed.

Request for grant for church clock deferred to next meeting.

 

Cemetery a/c

Clerks salary – payment of £41.30 proposed by GJ, seconded by NP.  Cheque no. 043 written and signed.

Bank statements for this account were checked and signed by NP.

 

ROADS AND FOOTPATHS

Outstanding kissing gates.  Alan Bristow to be approached about these.

Several complaints were passed onto the Council about overhanging bushes in Knaphill.

A letter has been sent by NP to Highways re. extending 30mph limit to Townsend.

Danger caused by parking outside Leigh First School was discussed.  It was decided to seek the views of the school governors via the headteacher, Gill Harry  It was also felt that there might be a need for better signing.

A complaint was received about spoil mounting on roadsides after ditch clearing.

It was decided that to pass this complaint on, in writing, to Somerset CC.

                                                                                                ACTION NP & CLERK

Cuts in local bus service.  Attention of the Council was drawn to articles in the local press about proposed cuts in the service.  It was decided to encourage villagers to contact  Gloria Cawood and Cllr Maddock on this matter.

 

CEMETERY 

Two quotes were received for mowing during 2004/5 of £700 and £950.  The contract was awarded to D. Jarvis who submitted the lower quote as was a quote for £20 to clear overhanging shrubbery from the churchyard wall as proposed by NP and seconded by JW.
