LEIGH ON MENDIP ANNUAL PARISH MEETING

held on 20th May 2013

 at 8pm in the Memorial Hall

 

 

Councillors Present: C Cudmore (CC; Chair), I Barnes (IB), G Boden (GB), D Mattick (DM) and
D Sparkes (DS). 

In attendance: S Vaillant (SV; Clerk), V Horler (VH), District Councillor, and 9 members of the public.

Report from the Parish Council

 

1.1

Chairman read Parish Council report.

 

 

 

 

1.1.1

Chair thanked our District Councillors and our departing County Councillor Gloria Cawood and thanked her for her work over the years and her support over local issues.

 

 

 

 

1.1.2

Chair thanked the WI for organising the annual spring clean, and also the general public who pick up litter as they go.

 

 

 

 

1.1.3

Chair appealed for all parishioners to keep the areas around their properties clean and trees, hedges etc. cut back.

 

 

 

 

1.5

Chair thanked the councillors, past and current, for their continued work.

 

 

 

 

1.6

Chair thanked Sandrine Vaillant for her work as Parish and Cemetery Clerk  over the last 5+ years and  presented her with a card and gift.  

 

 

 

 

2.0

Report from Recreation Field Management Committee

 

2.1

V Higgins read report on behalf of the Rec Field Management Committee:-

·       Grass cutting is now being arranged by the PC.

·       Thank you to Frank for marking out the pitch every week.

·       Maintenance of the field continues and extended thanks to David and Matthew

·       Dog fouling still a problem; V Horler advised that the dog warden at MDC may be able to help.

·       Skate park project is now a pump track project and fundraising has happened throughout the year. Design was sent through with a competitive quote. Tarmac has promised to help with the materials.

·       Changes to the licence

·       Thanks were extended to the committee members for their continued support and work.

·       Thanks to the Parish Council for its support.

Chair thanked the Recreation Field Management committee for their work.

 

 

 

 

3.0

Report from Memorial Hall Committee

 

3.1

Report was read by D. Mattick on behalf of Sue Vaughan.

·       Aim of committee to keep the hall in good shape and carry out maintenance jobs

·      Two major projects: car park wall and wire fence around children play area;

·      Thanks were extended to all members for their continued work over the year.

 

 

 

 

3.2

Chair thanked the committee for their work and wished Ann Orpwood, booking clerk, a speedy recovery.

 

 

 

 

3.3

Caroline & Graham Harris have temporarily taken over the hall bookings while Ann Orpwood is unwell.

 

 

 

 

4.0

Open Meeting

 

4.1

Highways – 20mph signs displayed following the top dressing exercise are not substantial and blowing everywhere – chair responded that the signs would be in place until all gravel had compacted. Chair agreed to contact Highways if the signs are not removed promptly.

4.2

New badger hole at junction of Pitten Street and Stocks Lane; hole was not filled with concrete and is reappearing – Chair to report.

Fly-tipping – It was agreed that this is a problem and has been reported. Chair reiterated to members of the public present that there was a hotline at MDC to report fly-tipping. VH confirmed that MDC had been asked to patrol the Whitehole Hill area once a week due to heavy tipping.

 

 

 

 

4.4

Leaflet  advising of date of street cleaning is not posted to some residents in Bellfield – Chair responded that the focus was to advise residents of the houses where cars parked on the road during the day. Properties in Bellfield were not posted where they have driveways and vehicles are not left on the road during the day.

 

 

 

 

4.5

Footpaths/gates – A missing stile was reported between Bellfield and the field. IB agreed to look into it, to perhaps have a swing gate installed.

Hedge at Church Walk needs cutting back – IB reiterated that he would cut.

 

 

 

 

4.7

View of the Church from Bellfield – Yew tree has grown very large and is leaning over the roof of an adjacent shed. To be reported to MDC.
