MINUTES OF LEIGH-ON-MENDIP PARISH COUNCIL MEETING
                      HELD ON 6 JUNE 1994.

Councillors present were J Davis, S Haywood, M Loten, H  Mawdsley 
and D Pattison, Chairman.
D Turner and R Dixon sent apologies as they would be late.
Apologies from A Merrick, County Councillon.

MINUTES OF THE MEETING 25/04
Were  accepted as a true record and signed.  The MATTERS  ARISING 
were:   NOTICEBOARD - ML had  3 quotes from 217 to 245  for  a 
hardwood, single door board with toughened glass.  It was  agreed 
that other makers would be approached.           (CLERK, DP & SH)
BANNER - liaise with S Pitter.                            (CLERK)
Receipt received for grant to LUMP.
FOOTPATH AT FERN COTTAGE - DT, who had arrived, would pursue.(DT)
MAIZE ON FOOTPATH - to be pursued.                        (CLERK)

AGM MINUTES accepted and signed.

PLANNING 
Caravan in Park Hayes - Consent for one year.
Playgroup Shed - granted. 
Complaint about Electricity Pole in garden of 20 Park Hayes.(CL)
Retrospective Application for Plastic Windows at Lantern Cottage
Foxhollow not informed.  PC had had no complaints over the last 3 
years  but felt that if the proper procedure had been adhered  to 
they  would have objected to the window alteration.       (CLERK)
Soho Cottage - 2 storey rear extension No objection.  (CLERK)
15 June Briefing for PC's about Planning - DP & HM to attend.

FINANCE
INSURANCE  POLICY  due.  DP proposed payment of 67  premium.  DT 
seconded.  All agreed. Cheque made out.                   (CLERK)
RENT  FOR  HALL  - 10. DT proposed  payment,  JD  seconded,  all 
agreed. Cheque made out.                                  (CLERK)
SOMERSET COMPUTING(DT declared an interest) - bill for 74.71 for 
photocopying.  Payment proposed by DP, seconded ML.  Cheque  made 
out.                                                      (CLERK)
RFMC  - Payment of planning fee of 35 proposed by  DP,  seconded 
SH. All agreed. Cheque made out.                          (CLERK)

QUARRY MATTERS
Answer to Letter re fencing at Barns Close unsatisfactory,  the 
perimeter fence is dangerous. CC Health & Safety Exec informed. (CLERK)
Complaint  re  strong  smell which pervaded the  village  in  May 
causing  the  gas  board to be called  and  which  emanated  from 
'buried  chicken manure' being unearthed at Halecombe Quarry.  It 
was decided to write to Envir Health on this matter.      (CLERK)
RADON  - Reply by NRPB, 11 homes in the Parish tested and 5  over 
the  action  level.   Agreed that DP would write  again  to  NRPB 
asking for more details as the fear is that high Radon levels are 
related to quarrying activity. Copy SALC.                    (DP)

Notification of MDC ENVIRON DEPT re-organisation.
D Day details

TWINNING NOTES, HEALTH COMMISION - circulated. 

VILLAGE SURVEY
DT  had printed 15 copies of the Survey.  It was agreed  to  sell 
them through the Village Shop for 60p each and to give copies  to 
-  PCC,  Police, Surgery, MDC Planning Dept, SCC,  Library, Cllrs 
Hewitt (District) and Merrick (County).  S Pitter will be thanked 
for her work.                                             (CLERK)

CHURCHYARD EXTENSION
Letter  from A I'Anson saying that the PC ought to negotiate  for 
the  land and  if compulsory purchase became necessary  he  would 
then   become   involved.    A  sub  committee  of   DP,   JD   & 
ML(Churchwarden) was formed.

DATE OF NEXT MEETING
It  was  agreed  to  meet on the  third  Monday  of  each  month.  
Therefore the next meeting is on 18 JUNE in the SCHOOL.
